Getty Villa
I’m so excited to share a new blog post with you about a trip I took a while ago to visit The Getty Villa. I met up with a couple of my blogger friends, Meghan and Leona, and we spent the day admiring the art, architecture and gardens. There’s so much to see, but the gardens and architecture were my favorite parts of the trip. They were just beautiful!
Location: The Getty Villa, Malibu, CA β Outfit Details:
Express Black Romper (Old, Similar) // Black Booties (Similar) // Alex & Ani Bracelets // Skmei Watch // VJL Rings (Similar for $10) // VJL Necklace // Black Crossbody Bag (Old, Similar)
When you first walk into the Getty Villa there’s a front garden area with fountains. My favorite was the mosaic and shell fountain with the theatrical masks I’m standing in front of in the photo above. It’s a beautiful sight and a great way to welcome guests into the Getty Villa.
I couldn’t stop staring at the mosaic fountain. It reminded me so much of Park GΓΌell in Barcelona. I visited it a few years ago and fell in love! After taking some time to drink in my nostalgia and walk around shooting some photos with the beautiful fountains, we ventured inside to see what other treats the Getty Villa held for us.
We loved walking around and looking at all of the beautiful architecture. Remember to look up when you visit, the ceilings are absolutely beautiful. The Getty Villa’s style is inspired by Roman, Greek and Etruscan style. It has room after beautifully crafted room of antiquities. It would be easy to spend hours looking through everything!
Once you find the building with the antiquities, you can go to the second floor to look at the main garden. It’s an absolutely stunning view, overlooking a reflecting pool, bronze statues, and of course, beautiful greenery. When we went, the reflecting pool was actually out of water because of the drought in LA. However, even though it was off, the view was still stunning. You can even see the ocean in the back of the photo!
After overlooking the garden, we went downstairs to see it in person. We walked through a covered walkway and were able to enjoy looking at not only the greenery, but also architecture and designs painted on to the walkway. It definitely made me bump Rome up a few places on my travel bucket list. If beautiful place is modeled to be anything like Rome, I can’t wait to see the real thing!
In order to make sure I was comfortable during our day of walking around and looking at the sights the Getty Villa had to offer, I wore a Black and White Express Romper. The one I’m wearing is old, but I’ve found a few similar versions all under $50 (here, here and here). I absolutely adore rompers. I wear mostly skirts and dresses, but I definitely make an exception to that rule for rompers. If you’re also a romper-lover, make sure you check out this post centered around a blue romper!
Our trip to the Getty Villa was so much fun. The architecture and gardens were beautiful, and it was so great to meet up with Meghan and Leona. It was really nice to get together with a couple of really talented bloggers. Meghan took the photos for this post, and if you want to check out the photos I took for her blog, head over to Beyond Basic Blog to see them! Both ladies are super talented, and have a great eye for fashion and travel – definitely check out their content!
If you ever find yourself with a spare day in Malibu, make sure to plan a trip to the Getty Villa. The tickets are free, so you only have to pay for parking! Just make sure to head over to the website and reserve them ahead of time. It was such a fun day trip – I definitely recommend going with a couple of friends. We all had a blast!
xoxo, Jess

April 18, 2017 at 2:59 pmI can’t think of a better way to spend a day. It did remind me of Rome .. when my husband and I went a few years back I fell in love with all of the architecture .. I’d never seen anything quite like it. I couldn’t help but smile at your comment about looking at the ceilings. When we got home from Rome .. I swear the kink in my neck lasted for a few weeks! Completely worth it.
